President Bola Tinubu has reacted to growing political realignment ahead 2027 elections by a coalition of opposition figures, allegedly working to dislodge him in the 2027 presidential election.
Among the coalition are high-profile politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, and Abubakar Malami.
Since its launch in March, the group’s activities have stirred public interest and allegations that the APC is undermining the alliance through defection inducements and internal sabotage.
Recent defections to the APC include the governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom and all three senators from Kebbi State.
Despite the fact that INEC has not lifted the ban on political campaigns, President Tinubu has garnered endorsements that critics claim contravene the Electoral Act.
During a working visit to Nasarawa State on Wednesday, Tinubu aligned with the comments made earlier by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga. He described the APC’s political moves as countermeasures to early opposition action.
He lauded Governor Sule’s performance and emphasized support for the state’s progress.
“Those stirring early politics under the guise of a coalition are political agitators. Ignore them. Real work is being done here in Nasarawa.”
He continued:
“I don’t intend to begin early campaigning. But no serious politician can stay silent while an organised attempt is being made to unseat him.”
This statement, coming in the wake of renewed criticism by El-Rufai, highlights the escalating political rhetoric as Nigeria approaches the next electoral cycle.
