The Kano State Police Command has nabbed 11 students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the suspected murder of two fellow students, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa.
The victims were reportedly attacked with sharp metal objects locally referred to as “Gwale-Gwale” in a gruesome incident that sparked public outrage across the state.
Responding to the development, the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Ali Makoda, on Wednesday ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Giving an update on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, stating that investigations were underway to determine their level of involvement.
“Eleven students were arrested over the incident, and an investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their involvement,” Haruna said. He assured the public that everyone responsible would be brought to justice.
Also reacting, the Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Abbas Abdullahi, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He called on students to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
Abdullahi emphasized the state government’s commitment to ensuring justice, affirming that no effort would be spared in uncovering the truth.
“The Kano State Government has promised to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident,” he stated.
