Labour Party has proven to be worse than APC – Valentine Ozigbo

Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has said that the Labour Party (LP) has turned out to be even worse than the ruling party APC.

Speaking in a recent interview with journalists in Lagos, Ozigbo expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the Labour Party, saying many members were leaving due to internal issues. He had resigned from LP in February and joined the APC to pursue his gubernatorial ambition.

However, in April, he lost the APC primary to Nicholas Ukachukwu, who secured 1,455 votes. Ozigbo, who was previously the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, has since filed a legal challenge against the APC primary results.

Justifying his defection, he said: “The Labour Party I was in turned out to be worse than APC. I couldn’t remain there and still criticize the APC—I chose instead to join a party that, while imperfect, has the potential for positive change.”

He acknowledged that some people misunderstood or criticized his move, but emphasized that his motivation was rooted in the desire to contribute to national development and to meet the expectations of the people of Anambra.

Ozigbo said his legal action is aimed at addressing irregularities in the APC primary and possibly securing the party’s ticket. He believes the APC can be transformed and accepted in Anambra if it fields credible candidates.

“People may dislike the APC, but that doesn’t mean it can’t change. I want to be the person who helps make APC a party that Anambra people can believe in,” he said.
