Lagos-Ibadan expressway blocked as multiple vehicles collide

Multiple vehicles collided on Kara Bridge, along the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday, resulting in heavy traffic build up along the express.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the incident has dragged traffic backwards Otedola bridge with the Lagos Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) asking road users to be patient.

It was gathered that recovery of affected vehicles is in progress and LASTMA officials and other emergency responders are fully on ground managing the situation.

“We recorded an accident on Kara bridge inward Opic on Lagos-Ibadan expressway with multiple vehicles.

“LASTMA personnel and other emergency responders have swung into action to rescue the victims and also clear the affected vehicles.

“Some of the vehicles affected have been successfully recovered from the road, two lanes are now opened for vehicular movement inward Opic,” LASTMA disclosed.

Three hours prior to filing this report, the road was 60% open for traffic flow, according to LASTMA.

“We expected a rapid movement along the corridor. Our officials are also well positioned to monitor and manage the situation effectively,” the agency stated.

Meanwhile, in a latest development, LASTMA disclosed that all vehicles involved in the accident have now been successfully evacuated, hence, the road has been reopened for full capacity use.

The agency also updated that an articulated truck affected by the accident has been removed using a crane.

However, LASTMA said its “officers are still present there, making efforts to clear the backlog of traffic and ensure smooth traffic flow in the area.

The agency did not release any casualty figures.
