The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the July 13 council polls in the 24 local government areas of Delta State. The results were announced on Sunday in Asaba at the headquarters of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC).
After the declaration of results by the LGA Returning Officers, DSIEC Chairman Dr. Jerry Agbaike mentioned that the Allied People’s Movement (APM) won in one electoral ward in Oshimili South local government area.
Recall that recently the Supreme Court granted LG Autonomy and ruled that they can now get allocations directly from the Federal Government.
President Tinubu welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, affirming the spirit, intent, and purpose of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the statutory rights of local governments.
The president stated that a fundamental challenge to the nation’s advancement over the years has been ineffective local government administration, as governance at the critical cellular level of socio-political configuration is nearly absent
