Man hammers wife to death eight months after wedding in Edo

A man, Kelvin Osamede Izekor has killed his 38-year-old wife, Ugiagbe Osaiyekemwen Success Izekor, eight months after their wedding in Edo State.

TheNewsGuru learnt that the incident happened at No. 50 Upper Mission extension, Benin City on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly smashed Succes to death with a hammer during a heated argument, resulting in deep cuts and her eventual death.

The incident comes only months after the couple got married in June 2024 in Benin City.

A resident shared the couple’s wedding video in a post on X, expressing shock over the tragic incident.

Also confirming the incident, is Moses Yamu, the Edo police PRO, who disclosed that the suspect was about to be lynched by an angry mob when officers arrived at the scene to rescue him.

Yamu added that the police have charged Kelvin to court, and he has been remanded in prison.

“On 22/02/2025 at about 2200hrs, information was received that one Kelvin Izekor of no 50 Upper Mission extension, Benin-City has killed his wife named Success Izekor aged 38yrs and was about to be lynched by an irate mob,” the statement reads.

“Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head.

”It took serious efforts by the Police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation. The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

“The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, psc,mnips, decried the recent cases of spouses being violent against each other while assuring the public of diligent investigation into the death of the woman and whoever found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.”
