Many feared dead as boat capsizes in Niger State

Several passengers have been confirmed dead  following a tragic boat accident that occurred on the Shiroro Dam waterways in Niger State.

TheNewsGuru reports that rescue operations are ongoing in the incident that took place around 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, when a local passenger boat capsized between Sherin Waterway and Kwata Market in the Shiroro Local Government Area.

The boat, owned by Mallam Danlami Musa from Shaita Village in the Muya Local Government Area, was transporting an unknown number of passengers from Shaita to the weekly market at Kwata when it capsized.

Upon receiving the report, a joint rescue team consisting of Marine Police officers and local divers was promptly mobilized to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.

As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties remains unconfirmed, but rescue efforts are ongoing to retrieve possible survivors and recover any bodies.

The Niger State Police Command has urged boat operators to adhere strictly to safety regulations, including the use of life jackets and proper passenger management.
