Many feared dead as Truck rams into bus in Lagos

Tragedy struck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday when a Howo truck rammed into a Mazda bus at Car Park C, Mowe, Ogun State, claiming the lives of five people and leaving seven others injured.

TheNewsGuru gathered that the accident, which occurred at about 1:39 p.m., triggered response from emergency responders.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, said a total of 12 passengers were on board the Mazda bus at the time of the crash—seven men and five women.

According to her, five people, including two male adults and three female adults, died on the spot, while five other men and two women sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC indicate that the crash was caused by speeding, brake failure, and loss of control by the Howo truck driver, who reportedly collided with the bus as it was negotiating a turn at the park.

“The crash involved two(2) vehicles. A Yellow Mazda Bus with registration number LGB465XA and Ash Howo Truck with no registration number.

“A total of 12 passengers(7 Male Adults and 5 Female Adults) were involved in the crash. 2 Male Adults and 3 Female Adults were killed, while 5 Male Adults and 2 Female Adults were injured. The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the corpses were deposited at Idera Morgue.

“The suspected causes of the crash were speeding, brake failure, and loss of control on the part of the Howo truck which rammed into the Mazda bus as the driver was negotiating a turning point at Car Park C,” Okpe said in a statement.
