The former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari on Wednesday arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as part of an ongoing investigation into refinery maintenance funds.
TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Kyari, who had previously been placed on the commission’s watchlist, visited at the anti-graft agency headquarters in Abuja.
According to sources within the agency, disclosed that the former NNPCL boss is expected to answer questions on how funds allocated for refinery repairs were managed during his tenure.
“Yes, he’s in our office. He will be ushered into where he will face interrogation by the crack detectives of the commission,” a senior EFCC official confirmed.
This development follows an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered the freezing of all bank accounts linked to Kyari at the request of the anti-graft agency.
The interrogation is part of a wider investigation into the billions of naira earmarked for Nigeria’s long-struggling refineries, which have remained largely unproductive despite repeated turnaround maintenance funding.
