NAF provides more accommodation, commissions new residential block at Benin base

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 28 December 2017, commissioned an additional block of 30 x 1 residential accommodation for airmen and airwomen serving at the 107 Air Maritime Group (AMG), NAF Base Benin.

The building, which was commissioned by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is in furtherance of his determination to eliminate the challenge of accommodation insufficiency in the NAF.

The newly constructed studio apartment is designed to accommodate 30 airmen and airwomen, in addition to the 2 blocks of 120 studio apartments that were recently commissioned in the Unit.

The CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Administration at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Mahmoud Ahmed said that “the serial provision of accommodation facilities across NAF Bases was an eloquent testimony of the current leadership’s commitment to the welfare of personnel while also focusing on the development of their capacity”.

He further stated that “The project would not only alleviate accommodation shortage for NAF personnel serving in Benin area but also significantly reduce the financial burden of rents faced by the NAF in housing its personnel”.

The CAS, charged the personnel who will benefit from the new accommodation to ensure proper use and adequate maintenance of the facility adding that the Service and indeed the nation in return would continue to expect and truly does not deserve anything less than absolute loyalty and the best from them.

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of keys to some of the beneficiaries of the new accommodation by the representative of the CAS.

It is pertinent to state that aside from its maritime patrol roles, 107 AMG is one of the NAF frontline units that is directly involved in the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in the Northeast, conducting Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, medical evacuation as well as airlift of troops and logistics resupply.
