Arise Television has been fined two million naira by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) following a fake report aired on the station concerning the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu.
Recall that Arise TV had aired a report that the Independent National Broadcasting Commission (INEC) was investigating Tinubu’s alleged crime bordering on narcotics and illicit drugs. perpetrated in the United States.
A statement purportedly issued by the INEC had gone viral on social media but the electoral body, on Saturday debunked the report, saying it was a handiwork of mischiefs.
Although, Arise TV had apologolized to Tinubu and entire Nigerians for airing a false and misleading content, it wqs not enough to avoid being penalized by NBC.
