[RCCG shake-up] All you need to know about Pastor Adeboye’s retirement

Pastor Enoch Adeboye has officially retired as the General overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Following Adeboye’s retirement, a new Overseer, Pastor Joseph Obayemi has been announced to take over the leadership of the church.

Obafemi until his appointment was in charge of salaries and wages.

According to reports, Adeboye may still remain as spiritual head.

Pastor Adeboye who was ordained as General Overseer (most senior pastor) of RCCG in 1981 affirms that the new GO, Pastor Obayemi will not stop him from carrying out this functions or drive him away from the camp.

As spiritual head Adeboye will still be allowed to conduct RCCG’S ‘Holyghost’ services as well as visit RCCG churches.

The newly appointed RCCG leaders are:

Overseer – Pastor Joseph Obayemi

Secretary – Pastor Odesola

Treasurer -Pastor Adeyokunnu

The newly appointed RCCG leaders were introduced during the 2017 annual minister’s thanksgiving service led by the outgoing G.O, Adeboye, at the Redemption camp,KM 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway..

When was RCCG founded?

RCCG was founded in 1952 by Rev. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi (1909–1980) after he had been involved in a number of other churches. Rev. Akindayomi chose Adeboye as the next General overseer.

Enoch Adeboye was a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, as at the time he joined the church in 1973.

Adeboye initially became one of the interpreters translating Akindayomi’s sermons from Yoruba to English.

He was ordained a pastor of the church in 1975, and his appointment as leader (General overseer) of the church was formalized by the posthumous reading of Akindayomi’s sealed pronouncement. In 1990, Redeemed Christian Church of God Bible School is founded.

Other General Overseers might retire soon

A new law has been promulgated to retire General Overseers that have presided over their churches for certain period of time.

With the new law, it is possible that other prominent General Overseers might also retire soonest.
