Nigeria @57: Osun Assembly Calls for Sober Reflections

Osun State House of Assembly under the Leadership of Honourable Najeem Salam has called on Nigerians to use the occasion of the 57th Anniversary of the State of nation for sober reflection on the state of the nation.

The Assembly in a statement by the Chairman House Committee on Information and Strategy, Honourable Olatunbosun Oyintiloye maintained that though the occasion is a milestone in the chequered history of the nation, it calls for sincere evaluation and measurement of the journey so far.

The Assembly noted that at 57, it is worrisome that the nation was bogged down by issues of ethnicity, nepotism and is yet to realize her potential as giant of Africa.

It points that the fact that both the human and natural endowment has not been maximized suggests the need for Leadership to examine the underlying factors responsible for the awkward growth.

The lawmaking body contended that security challenge, unemployment and gross deficit in infrastructure, obvious challenge in education and inability of the nation to feed herself are pointers that all is not well with the nation.

The parliamentarian calls for proactive measures on the part of political leadership at all levels, saying there is the need to initiate a process that would address all forms of injustice, inequality and equity.

Osun Assembly also advocates better attitude on the part of politicians and electorate to break the cycle of cash and carry politics and also charged electorate in particular not see politicians as money making machine.

The statement which also called for collective efforts in the fight against corruption, promotion of human rights and human dignity, acknowledged the measures put in place by President Muhammadu Buhari as well as the state Governor, Ọgbẹni Rauf Aregbesola to make life better for the citizens.
