Nigeria’s Super Falcons drop two places in FIFA rankings

Despite emerging as the best female team in Africa, the Super Falcons of Nigeria dropped two places in the latest FIFA ranking released on Friday morning.

The Super Falcons who were ranked 32nd best team in the world the previous month have now dropped two places to 34th position in the world.

However, they maintain their position as Africa’s number one.

The West Africans recorded impressive results in the 2024 Olympics and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia and Cape Verde but it was not enough to improve their position on the ranking.

Super Falcons posted a good performance at the last women World Cup finishing top of their group but lost gallantly on penalties to the three Lionesses of England in the second round.

Meanwhile, Reigning women’s world champions Spain end the year as the number one ranked team, which is their first-ever feat.

At number two is former FIFA women’s World Cup winners USA, France are third, England maintained fourth and Sweden dropped to fifth.

The next FIFA women’s world ranking will be published in January.
