Following the passage of the not too young to run bill, the former Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Peter Obi, has charged Nigerian youths to act up and take back their places in the helms of affairs of the country.
Dr. Obi made the charge at the ongoing Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF) Annual National Bible Study Conference being held at CMS Grammar School Bariga, Lagos.
TheNewsGuru reports the AYF National Conference is the highest gathering of Anglican youths from across the 14 provinces of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion held annually.
The 2017 edition of the annual conference, being hosted by the Lagos Diocese, Province of Lagos, also marks the 70th anniversary celebration of the Fellowship.
Speaking on “Accountability in Leadership – Reward for the Youth,” Obi told more than 6000 registered youth delegates at the conference that there is no other time for Nigerian youths to act but now.
The venue of the conference, CMS Grammar School, which happens to be the first and oldest secondary school in Nigeria, was founded on the 6th of June 1859 by the First Missionaries.
The conference was formally declared opened by the Archbishop of Lagos Province and Diocesan of Remo; His Grace, the Most Revd Dr. Michael Olusina Fape. He was assisted by the Bishop of Lagos Diocese and Dean Emeritus, Church of Nigeria, His Grace, the Most Revd Dr. Adebola Ephraim Ademowo.
The theme of the conference is: Give Thanks with the text taken from 1Thess. 5:18.
Clergymen in attendance at the opening ceremony of the conference are Rt. Revd Jolly Oyekpen, National Coordinator and Bishop of Akoko-Edo; the Rt. Revd Kuponu, Bishop of Ijebu North; Rt. Revd Dr. Akin Atere, the Lord Bishop of Awori Diocese; and the Rt. Revd Adeyemi, Bishop of Badagry.
Other clergymen present are the Rt. Revd Emmanuel Adekunle, Diocesan Bishop of Egba; the Rt. Revd Akinpelu Johnson, Bishop of Lagos Mainland Diocese; the Rt. Revd Babatunde Ogunbanwo, Bishop of Ijebu South-west; Ven. Nelson Emebeyo, National Religious Coordinator; and Ven. Ben Idume.

Meanwhile, the National President of the AYF Nigeria, Mr. Eze Chukwuebuka in his presidential address, had thanked the ex-Governor for finding time out of his busy schedule to grace the occasion.
The national council of the AYF later conferred an award of excellence on Dr. Peter Obi for his exemplary show of leadership in the country, and for his contributions to the Anglican Communion despite being a Roman Catholic.
