NRC reacts over Abuja-Kaduna train derailment

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that one of its Kaduna-bound trains on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) derailed at about 11:09 am on Tuesday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the incident occurred at kilometre 49, between Kubwa Station and Asham Station.

In a statement issued by the NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, the corporation disclosed that emergency rescue teams, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals had been mobilised to provide urgent assistance to passengers.

He added that a full complement of security operatives had also been deployed to the scene to ensure the safety of commuters and facilitate ongoing evacuation efforts.

“Our priority at the moment is the safe movement of all passengers back to Abuja,” Opeifa stated, while appealing for calm and understanding from the public.

As of press time, there were no immediate reports of casualties, while rescue operations were still underway.
