Oborevwori congratulates Warri Wolves on NNL Title, return to Nigeria Premier League

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Sunday, congratulated Warri Wolves Football Club on their impressive victory at the 2025 Nigerian National League (NNL) Super 8, which earned them the championship title and a long-awaited return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Oborevwori in a statement issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, praised the Seasiders for their determination, resilience, and team spirit throughout the season, culminating in their thrilling 3-2 win over Wikki Tourists of Bauchi at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori hailed the historic win as a “well-deserved triumph” and commended the players, coaches, and management for their outstanding performance, saying it was a reaffirmation of Delta’s reputation as the home of champions.

He particularly applauded the Delta State Sports Commission and the team’s handlers for their professionalism, strategic planning, and commitment, which, he noted, were instrumental in Warri Wolves’ return to the elite division of Nigerian football.

“I heartily congratulate Warri Wolves Football Club on their glorious return to the Nigeria Premier League. This victory is not only for Warri but for the entire Delta State.

“I commend the players, the technical crew, the management, and especially the Delta State Sports Commission, for their dexterity, focus, and unwavering dedication.

“Your collective efforts have restored pride to our state and rekindled hope among our sports-loving people. The government remains committed to supporting sports at all levels and creating opportunities for our youth to thrive”, Oborevwori stated.

Warri Wolves’ return to the NPFL marks the end of a difficult chapter and the beginning of a new era. Originally founded in 1998 as NPA FC and rebranded as Warri Wolves in 2003, the club rose to national prominence in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that Warri Wolves’ return to the NPFL would re-energize the football culture in the state and promote youth involvement in sports development. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in sports infrastructure, talent development, and support for professional teams across Delta.

He said: “Our government will continue to promote excellence in sports and provide the enabling environment for our athletes and teams to succeed. Warri Wolves have, once again, proven that with vision, leadership, and teamwork, success is inevitable.”
