Ogun Police arrest two persons for stealing electric cables

The police in Ogun State  have arrested two persons for allegedly stealing electric cables belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The Ogun police image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects, Odogwu Wisdom and Akorede Aregbe, were arrested in Ijebu-Ode following a  tip off.

Addressing pressmen in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital on Monday, Oyeyemi said that the two suspects were apprehended after receiving a distress call from the igbeba DPO and some local  vigillantes.

At about 2 am, the local vigilantes at Olisa area of Ijebu-Ode, were said to have raised the alarm that “some vandals were carrying out their nefarious activities at an IBEDC transformer in the area.”

Upon the information, Oyeyemi hinted that the DPO Igbeba, CSP Musiliu Doga, immediately led his patrol team to the area.

It was gathered  that Odogwu Wisdom, who was with a motorcycle was reportedly arrested with cables already cut from the electricity transformer, while his other colleagues escaped.

During interrogation, one of the suspects. Odogwu Wisdom had confessed before the police that he and his gang specialized in stealing electric cables, mentioning Akorede Aregbe as one of the receivers of their stolen cables.

The operatives of the Police force  quickly swung into action to track down Aregbe  and whisk him to the police station.

 

Oyeyemi mentioned that large quantity of electric cables were recovered from the suspects.

In his words “large quantities of cable suspected to have been stolen from IBEDC installation as well as tools they use for the illicit trade” were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the command’s CIID for further investigation
