Pastor Bolaji Idowu blesses Hilda Baci as she begins her jollof rice record attempt

Popular Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci on Friday received spiritual support from Pastor Bolaji Idowu, the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, before beginning her latest cooking challenge in Lagos.

The chef, who is known for breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon in 2023, is now attempting another big task  preparing what is being described as the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

The event took place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, as part of the Gino Jollof Festival, which is being organised in partnership with her food brand. Before the cooking started, Pastor Idowu prayed for her and gave her words of encouragement. He also blessed the entire project, describing it as another big step for Nigerian food culture.

Hilda Baci is aiming to cook a pot of rice measuring about six metres wide and six metres tall. The massive pot is expected to contain about 250 bags of rice, which will be served to tens of thousands of people attending the festival.

According to the organisers, over 20,000 people have already registered to be part of the event, which is free to attend. The organisers also explained that the festival was put together to celebrate jollof rice, which is one of Nigeria’s most popular dishes, and to showcase it on a record-breaking level.

Speaking about the project, Hilda promised that the food would be well-prepared, tasty, and hygienic. She assured Nigerians that the cookout would not just be about breaking records, but also about celebrating the rich flavour of Nigerian cuisine.

The festival is expected to draw food lovers, tourists, and families from different parts of Lagos and beyond, making it one of the biggest food events of the year.
