Former presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has insisted to the Presidency that the August protest against bad governance in the country would hold.
It would be recalled that the Bola Tinubu- led administration on Saturday accused supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi of sponsoring the planned nationwide protests against economic hardship.
President Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, without evidence, alleged that the protest organisers are the same individuals involved in the 2020 ENDSARS protests, which were infiltrated by separatist elements.
Onanuga further warned that the planned demonstrations could lead to anarchy and said the former Anambra governor should be held accountable for any resulting crisis.
Reacting, Sowore said the accusation from the presidency that Obi, was behind the planned protest was a “drivel from a sinking regime”.
The presidential candidate further asserted that the August protest was an idea of Nigerians, and not of Obi.
He said Nigerians are tired of deceit, corruption, wickedness and incompetence of the ruling class.
On his X handle, on Saturday, Sowore said: “The drivel from a sinking regime. There is nothing that could stop an idea whose time has come.
“It doesn’t matter how you frame your fears and shenanigans, and the truth is that Nigerians are tired of the deceit, corruption, wickedness and incompetence of the ruling class and have opted to act from all locations at once.”
