In order to ensure prevention and control of diseases which is one of the core areas of its focus, Rotary Club, Ibadan JerichoMetro carried out Eye outreach at Ifesowapo Community in Ibadan on Thursday, 7th September, 2017.
The project which is done in partnership with the Opthalmology Department, University College Hospital, had about 200 beneficiaries while critical cases were given referral letters to University College Hospital.
In a statement issued by the club, the association claimed it discovered Cataract, glaucoma and other eye diseases and helped proffered likely solutions.
“During this outreach, we discovered Cataract, glaucoma and other eye diseases that need operations and treatment. The Ifesowapo Community supported the Outreach program by mobilizing their people and provided some support through their Community Development Council.
“The Eye outreach is in fulfillment of one of the six areas of focus by Rotary International: Disease prevention and Control. Our Rotary Club initiated this partnership with the Opthalmology department of University College Hospital, Ibadan four years ago. This was our six eye outreach.
“We have two types of Eye outreach: Community and School based. We have held Eye outreaches at St. Teresa’s College, Urban day Secondary School, and Springs board private school. All the schools are situated in Ibadan. Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho metro has also sponsored five Cataract operation for indigent patients as part of the celebration of World Sight day.”
