Phyna breaks silence on death of sister crushed by Dangote’s truck

Phyna, the former Big Brother Naija housemate has confirmed the death of her sister, Ruth Otabor, who was involved in a tragic accident with a Dangote truck on August 13, 2025.

The accident occurred near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, where Ruth was hit by a Dangote truck driven by an allegedly underage and unlicensed driver. The incident resulted in severe leg injuries, leading to the amputation of one leg.

Phyna shared the heartbreaking news through an official statement released by her solicitor on her Instagram page, requesting privacy during this difficult time to mourn her sister. As written in the public statement released to the public: “We remain solicitors to Ruth Otabor, Josephine Otabor (whose moniker is Phyna) and the Otabor family and have their instructions to inform the general public of this. With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on of their daughter, sister, mother on the 31st day of August 2025 at about 6:30Hrs.”

It continued: “The family is presently grieving and will appreciate given private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course.”

The accident had sparked a heated debate on social media, with Phyna calling out the Dangote Group over their response to the incident.

She questioned their commitment to her sister’s well-being and accused them of manipulating the situation. The Dangote Group, on the other hand, released a statement expressing their commitment to Ruth’s medical care and providing appropriate compensation.

As the news of Ruth’s passing spreads, fans and fellow celebrities have taken to social media to pay their condolences to Phyna and her family.
