The search and rescue operation following this week’s coordinated attacks on several communities in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, has uncovered an additional 40 bodies, bringing the total death toll to 52, officials confirmed.
The attacks targeted the villages of Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti, and Tadai. The state government has confirmed that some arrests have been made in connection with the violence that occurred on Wednesday night.
Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, reported that 31 victims were given a mass burial on Thursday. He added that five minors were burned to death at Hurti village, while 11 people were killed in Ruwi, four in Manguna, and one in Daffo.
While authorities have arrested some suspects, the exact number has not been disclosed.
In a statement issued in Jos, Information and Communication Commissioner Joyce Ramnap expressed the state government’s condolences to the grieving families and assured the public that security agencies are intensifying efforts to curb the ongoing violence.
The Mutfwang Administration, Ramnap said, has implemented strategic measures to improve intelligence gathering, enhance surveillance, and ensure faster response times in collaboration with security forces.
