Police nab seven notorious highway robbers in Lagos

The Lagos state Police Command says it has arrested seven suspected highway  robbers, whom it alleged have been terrorizing motorists on Ketu-Ikorodu Expressway in Kosofe area of the state.

These men have been operating on the Kosofe-Ketu, Oworoshoki axis of Lagos for sometime now.

The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin,  confirmed the arrest on Friday via his verified Twitter handle.

Hundeyin said that five of the suspects were arrested on Thursday at 11.00 a.m, while they were alleged to be attacking a motorist at Kosofe Bus Stop, near Mile 12 Food Market.

“On Thursday, five traffic robbers swooped on a motorist at Kosofe Bus Stop, along Ikorodu Road.

“The Ketu Police Division’s patrol team arrested them all, and that action led to the arrest of two others,” he said.

The spokesman said that the suspects’ ages were between 18 and 28.

He said that  investigation was ongoing at the divisional level on the arrested suspects.

The Lagos state police command  has arrested 35 suspected armed robbers between June and August, 2022.

The spokesman who also confirmed the figure added that  13 other suspected armed robbers were killed in different parts of the state during encounters with the police within the  same period.

He said 37 robbery operations were foiled in different parts of the state within the  same time. (NAN)
