A combined team of policemen on Tuesday took over the motor-park at Olososun in Ojota area of Lagos State and ensured that no operations took place at the park.
It would be recalled that the state government had ordered all residents and those operating business activities in the area to vacate, following the outbreak of fire at the dumpsite about a month ago, citing the fact that smokes emitting from the place were injurious to people’s health.
The development has led to the operators of the park, including drivers stranded, while few of the inter-state vehicles were seeing loading at the filling station nearby the park.
When TheNewsGuru.com visited the scene, our correspondent gathered stern-looking policemen, who were conveyed in about 15 Hilux patrol vehicles, parked at the entrance of the park while passersby and motorists were either ordered to take a U-turn from their point of departure or had to run holding their hands up.
A source who spoke with TheNewsGuru.com on condition of anonymity said operators have refused to vacate the place and the state government cannot continue to watch while the lives of people are in danger as a result of the dangerous emission from the dumpsite that has continued to burn.
Meanwhile, residents around Ojota area of Lagos are still at higher risk of being affected by air pollution from the Olusosun dump site.
As at the time of filing this report, Ojota area was again enveloped in smokes emitting from the dumpsite.
