The Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers Under Contributory Pension Scheme Kaduna and Thirty Five ( 35 ) Other Chapters Including FCT have formally notified the Inspector General of Police of the planned protest over poor retirement benefits.
In a notice signed by the Chairman Association, CSP. Mannir M. Lawal Zaria obtained by SaharaReporters addressed to the Inspector General of Nigeria Police Force and dated 14th July, 2025 the officers said no going back on the mass protest.
The letter read “ With must respeet and honor, 1 retired CSP. Mannir M. Lawal Zaria, GSM. No. 09053755774 on behalf of the above mentioned union, wish to inform you that, on the 21th of July Monday, we are coming to Abuja for a mother of all peaceful protest.
“ This is due to the abject poverty that we find ourselves in which is leading to
rampant death among us. Areas to visit during the peaceful protest may include the national assembly and the force headquarters Abuja respectively” The statement read.
The retired officers are demanding the exit of the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme, which they claim has subjected them to untold economic hardship, financial embarrassment, and an alarming rise in depression and deaths among retired personnel.
“We have no option but to embark on another peaceful protest tagged ‘Mother of All Peaceful Protests’ on July 21, 2025,” the union declared.
The group emphasised that the demonstration would be peaceful and span all 36 states of the federation.
