Actress Rita Daniels Chukwuji, the mother of Nollywood star Regina Daniels, has announced her interest to contest for the presidency of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
TheNewGuru.com(TNG) reports that the 50-year-old will face Abubakar Yakubu, the current national secretary of the guild, in the race to succeed Emeka Rollas, whose tenure ends in December 2025 after serving since 2017.
The veteran actress via the guild’s official Instagram page on Friday pledged to run a leadership that will protect, value, and empower members of the guild.
With close to two decades in Nollywood, she has featured in several movies and mentored young actors, which includes, Yakubu, who has been the AGN national secretary for six years, had earlier declared his interest in February.
He promised to prioritize members’ welfare, better remuneration, and improved working conditions while creating opportunities for growth in the creative industry.
Yakubu, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has built his reputation as an actor and producer with works spanning stage plays, films, and television series.
Under Rollas’ administration, the guild launched the AGN Super App, commissioned a new headquarters in Abuja, organized the Nollywood & African Films Investment Summit, and created the AGN Screen Awards.
The National Electoral Committee has been set up to oversee the election, which is scheduled to hold on December 6.
