Scraps dealers in Plateau on Sunday in Jos called on the state government to invest in, and support the business.
Speaking on behalf of Yan Kwalabe Development Association, Mr Biliyaminu Auwalu, said the scraps business has huge potential and will thrive given necessary support, secretary of scraps dealers Association.
He noted that scraps business had provided opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for many on the plateau.
“It has generated incomes as it enables individuals to collect, process, and sell various types of scrap materials.
“It has contributed to the local economy as we pay a lot of money as taxes,’’ he said.
Auwalu noted that engagement in scraps business had helped to clean up the state as practitioners collected waste materials from the streets and recycled them for reuse.
He enjoined the state government to provide financial assistance for scraps businessmen and women.
The association’s secretary also urged government to build scraps recycling centres in the state so as to streamline and expand the business.
Auwalu said the yard would also serve as a training ground for youths and create employment.
Also speaking, Mr Ide Peter, a businessman from Anambra who buys scraps in Plateau said a scraps yard would generate huge revenues for Plateau.
He encouraged the state government to establish at least one scraps yard.
