Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi, has undergone emergency abdominal surgery following a collision in their Premier League clash against Leicester on Sunday.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Super Eagles forward while attempting to connect with Anthony Elanga’s cross, collided with the post in the 88th minute, a few minutes after coming off the bench.
He received treatment on the pitch, and he was able to continue, but was clearly struggling before managing to see off the game.
Nottingham Forest have now confirmed in a statement on Monday that Awoniyi has undergone an urgent surgery.
The statement read: “The club can confirm Taiwo Awoniyi has undergone urgent surgery following an abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match against Leicester City.
“Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their best wishes to Taiwo. The club will provide further updates when appropriate.”
Similarly, the club owner, Evangelos Marinakis, clarified that he stormed onto the pitch after the encounter to express his frustration at the way Awoniyi’s injury was handled while wishing him a quick recovery.
He said, “Everybody—coaching staff, players, supporters, and including myself—was frustrated by Taiwo’s injury and the medical staff’s misjudgement of his ability to continue the game.
“This is natural; this is a demonstration of the passion we feel for our club.”
