Tinubu misses boxing bout with Holyfield

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress [APC], Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was on Friday absent at the much-publicised boxing bout between himself and the former Heavyweight World Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield to mark Lagos States 50th anniversary.

Tinubu’s absence was offcially made known to the waiting spectators by Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode who represented him at the event.

At about 10.28pm Ambode announced that Tinubu, Holyfield’s hyped opponent, was away on “national assignment.”

Accordingly Tinubu’s Media aide, Mr. Tunde Rahman also made an excuse for his principal, he said “Asiwaju Tinubu prepared elaborately for the day. He had unusual work out and training sessions. But just then when he was set for the Landmark Event Centre for the highly-highly-anticipated bout, some national exigency emerged that he needed to attend to.

“There was no embarrassment of any form there because Gov. Ambode stood in for him. Dont forget this was a charity event. Asiwaju Tinubu had hosted Evander Holyfield in his Bourdillon, Ikoyi residence where he dressed him up like an Eyo Masquerade, which the former heavyweight champion said he would cherish all his life.”

Professor Wole Soyinka, the designated referee, made a joke of the two men, he said “since Tinubu was late and the American did not perform a drug test, he had to disqualify both men.”

The event attracted lots of journalists both from the local and international media space who flocked the hall, ready to record and report a unique fun event.
