Tolu Bankole, a prominent member of the National Working Committee of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Pope Leo XIV on his election as the new Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Bankole described the election of Pope Leo XIV as a pivotal moment for the global Catholic community and the world at large. He expressed confidence that the new pope’s leadership will herald a new era of peace, justice, and inclusiveness.
“I extend my profound congratulations to His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, on this historic ascension to the sacred office of the Bishop of Rome,” Bankole stated. “The global community looks forward to a papacy that will inspire compassion, uphold human dignity, and foster unity among nations.”
Bankole, a vocal advocate for the rights of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria, also highlighted the joy of the PWD community in the country, who join millions around the world in celebrating the new pope’s election. He offered prayers for Pope Leo XIV, asking for divine strength and guidance as he begins his spiritual leadership.
“May the Lord bless His Holiness with the grace to lead the flock with courage and humility in these times of global uncertainty,” he added, closing the message with a traditional Latin blessing: Ad multos annos, Your Holiness.
Pope Leo XIV succeeds Pope Francis, marking a new chapter in the history of the Catholic Church. His election has drawn messages of goodwill from leaders across the globe, with many hopeful for renewed dialogue and unity under his papacy.
