Top three men of God that made headlines in 2020

By Emman Ovuakporie

As 2020 gradually goes into archival dustbin, there are three top Nigerian men endowed with spiritual awareness that made headlines in 2020 worth mentioning.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) Africa’s number one news portal in this short analysis will take a look at their positiveness and negativeness.

The three men of God include: Bishop Matthew Kukah, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and Bishop David Oyedepo.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye is one man of God that really hit headlines with his many prophesies and ways and means to bring Nigeria out of political wilderness.

Delivering a little bit into politics in year 2020, Adeboye recommended a United States of Nigeria anchored on true federalism.

Hear Him:

At a Symposium to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary with the theme, “Where will Nigeria be in 2060,” the highly revered Minister of God spoke like an oracle: Restructure Nigeria or break up.

He further explained that having a truly restructured Nigeria will ultimately take Nigeria into the league of great nations on planet Earth.

Adeboye on the value of the Naira:

Pastor Adeboye prayed for God’s intervention in Nigeria’s economic crisis, reminiscing of a time the naira was so powerful all he need was N5000 to feed his church congregation.

The 78-year-old cleric said:

“During our first Convention here at the Redemption Camp, I was bold, I asked everybody to come, free feeding. They came, I ran out of money. My wife came to me in the morning, ‘Sir, we need N5,000.’ Naira was powerful then. It will become powerful again. Those who are deliberately devaluing our naira, before tomorrow morning, God will intervene. So, my wife said we needed N5,000.

“I asked her, ‘Do you need it today or later?’ She said today. I didn’t have a kobo. I told her to go. I cried to God that I needed a breakthrough. It wasn’t long after that, one man drove in, he wasn’t a member of the church. He asked what’s going on and we said we are having a Convention. And then, he put his hands in his pocket and brought out an envelope with some money. I then called on my wife and asked her, ‘How much do you say you need?”

Pastor David Oyedepo Founder of Living Faith Ministries (a.k.a Winners Chapel):

A fire spitting man of God that says it without mincing words is among the top three contenders.

Hear him on Covid-19:

This is no longer coronavirus in Lagos and Ogun. It is now anti-church virus clean and clear.” The cleric claimed his church has recorded 114 Covid-19 healing testimonies.

“Can anybody silence the church? Never! I have never heard of anybody that God healed in the market but people get healed in every church day and night, real tangible healing. We have recorded 114 coronavirus healing testimonies. We got 10 this week..

This drew alot of condemnation in the social media but this man of God has moved on. He says as it is and damns the consequences.

On CAMA Law, Oyedepo as usual declared his stand saying nobody can impose anything on his church because the church is nobody’s heritage.

Rev Matthew Kukah, the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese on nepotism:

In his Christmas message, Kukah declared in his speech, entitled “A Nation in search of Vindication”, Kukah railed at Buhari’s unparalleled nepotism and policy of northern hegemony, while reducing other parts of the country to second class status.

He said there could have been a coup or war in the country if a non-Northern Muslim President had practiced a fraction of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘nepotism’.

The cleric explained that the behaviour and attitudes of the president is causing tension and anxiety in the country.

“I’m not speaking because I’m a Christian but because I’m a Nigerian,” stressing that some appointments made by the president are lopsided, even some northern elite are not happy with some of the appointments.
