UNIZIK expels female student who beat lecturer up over TikTok video

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, on Friday expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for physically assaulting a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, from the Department of Theatre Arts over a TikTok video recorded on campus.

TheNewsGuru recalls that the student, Precious, was seen dancing and filming a TikTok video along a corridor when the lecturer, Okoye, who seemed to be headed out, tapped her and said, “Excuse me.”

Displeased by the lecturer short disturbance, the girl is seen eyeing the lecturer before saying, “Can you imagine? He just hit me.”

In another video shared, the girl is seen getting physical with the lecturer who stood still with his two hands raised while students gathered and tried to intervene.

The incident has sparked debates online, with divided opinions on who was at fault.

Confirming the decision, the Acting Registrar, Victor Modebelu in a statement disclosed that the management received a report from the Student Disciplinary Committee regarding the incident involving a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

The statement further revealed that Chimamaka was found guilty of gross misconduct and violating the Students’ Disciplinary Regulations, specifically Regulation 4.

“The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, which was found to be gross misconduct and a violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4, SDR,” the letter stated.

Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with immediate effect.

“You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”
