What you must know about ValueJet’s female pilot who almost crushed KWAM1 to death at Abuja airport

The female pilot of Valuejet involved in the airport controversy with veteran Fuji singer King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM1, has been identified as Captain Oluranti Ogoyi.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), through its spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, had accused KWAM1 of bringing an alcoholic beverage on board, which is an offence that violates aviation regulations.

The singer was scheduled to board a morning flight from Abuja to Lagos on August 5, 2025, however, when the Aviation security personnel stopped him after attempting to carry a flask onto the plane, a confrontation ensued, with KWAM 1 reportedly spilling the contents of the flask on a security officer and refusing to step aside for clarification which led to a heated argument that almost became physical with the pilot.

Consequently, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) blacklisted the singer for six months on Thursday, while the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who described the singer’s behaviour as unacceptable, gave a directive that any airline that flies Kwam1 stands the risk of losing its operational license.

Meanwhile, Kwam 1, through his Media Aide, Kunle Rasheed, disclosed that at no point did he act in a manner that endangered lives or breached safety regulations.

Rasheed stated that the substance in question, which was wrongly sensationalised, was nothing more than plain drinking water, given to him at the airport lounge while waiting to board the aircraft.

The female pilot, who has nearly a decade of flying experience, began her career with Arik Air and spent several years refining her skills.

She later joined ValueJet and has remained one of the airline’s best female pilots.

Oluranti’s promotion to full captain occurred in September 2021, following years of service as a first officer. The feat was recognised in a ceremonial decoration ceremony organised by Arik Air’s then-CEO, Captain Roy Ilegbodu, together with Captain Adetokunbo Adekunbi and Captain Chris Najomo, who is currently the NCAA Director General.
