The coalition of non-governmental and community based organizations in Rivers state has commended the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for what it says “a bold fight against corruption”.
After a meeting on Monday, the coalition issued a communiqué signed by its chairman Boma Tella Attoni, stating the Buhari’s administration, from facts and available figures is working hard to provide good governance and exemplary leadership to the good people of Nigeria despite the legions of problems, challenges and distractions the government is faced with.
The group listed problems, challenges and distractions the government is faced with to include: “the ill-conceived secessionist call by the so called Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the political criminalization of the agitation for resource control by militant groups in the Niger Delta, and fraudulent diversion of the country’s foreign exchange”.
Other the group listed include: “the unwarranted, unjustified and illegal quit notices issued by the Arewa youths and politically sponsored Niger Delta militant groups and hate speeches being sponsored and engineered by persons facing corruption charges and political jobbers within and without Nigeria.
The group also commended the Buhari’s administration and the National Assembly for addressing factors militating against the execution, implementation and completion of the following vital projects in the South South.
Some of the projects the group made reference to are: “the completion of the East/West road and the bonny /bodo road; the implementation of the UNEP report; the upgrade and effective utilization of the Port Harcourt and Onne sea port which will boost employment in the region”.
Others are: “the Calabar-Port Harcourt coastal rail line, the security of our water ways and communities, particularly through the proposed establishment of a national coastal guard and the upgrading of the Port Harcourt international airport.
Members also laud Mr. President for appointing Chubike Rotimi Amaechi, Minister for transportation; Dakuku Peterside, DG, NIMASA; Oji Ngofa, Ambassador to Netherland; Ibim Seminitari, Acting MD, NDDC, Sokonte Davies, Executive Director Marine & Operations, NPA, and Mene Derick, EDFA, NDDC.
