Erstwhile Majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila has defeated his contender, Mohammed Bago to emerge as the Speaker of the House of Representative for the 9th Assembly.
Out of the 358 House of Representatives-elect members who participated in the voting exercise on Tuesday, Bago only polled a total of 76 votes.

While the winner, Gbajabiamila who is the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, garnered 281 votes.
Immediately Gbajabiamila exceeded 181 votes which he needed to emerge speaker, there was jubilation in the House as lawmakers congratulated him.
