For flouting protocols emplaced to contain the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Abe 1 has suspended Robinson Adereyo, the Chief Priest of Owhoru deity.
The Ovie of Uvwie kingdom announced the suspension of the chief priest on Tuesday at his Palace during a meeting that was attended by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon Ramson Onoyake.
The Ovie had directed that all cultural festivals in the kingdom be suspended pending when the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic is curtailed.
However, last weekend, the chief priest reportedly flouted the directive of the king to celebrate, in company of his disciples, the Owhoru cultural festival.
Abe 1, who directed that the next priest in order of seniority should act during the 6 months period of the suspension, also directed the LGA Chairman to carry out COVID-19 test for the suspended chief priest and his disciples.
Present at the meeting when the chief priest was suspended were the Unuevworo (traditional mouthpiece) of Etche R’ Ekpan (traditional administrative unit), Chief Peter Ifie and some Uvwie chiefs in Ekpan.
Also present at the meeting were the Unuevworo of Alegbo, Divisional Police Officer, Ekpan Police station and other heads of government security agencies in the council area.
