COVID-19: Abuja hospital evacuates patients, converts into isolation centre

Asokoro District Hospital Abuja is presently evacuating all patients in preparation to convert into an isolation centre as the government continues to prepare against the unknown in the face of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the hospital, located in the heart of the federal capital territory (FCT), had sent a notice out to house doctors and intern nurses in the hospital to vacate their accommodations as preparation for the conversion process reaches a high.

The FCT Administration (FCTA) in charge of the Asokoro District Hospital directed Dandam Gloria, the hospital secretary, to inform the doctors and nurses that the staff quarter is supposed to be used to accommodate some staff that will work in the infectious disease unit of the facility

“I am directed to inform you with regret that you’re to as a matter of urgency vacate the staff quarters with immediate effect from today and tomorrow. The staff quarter is supposed to be used to accommodate some staff that will work in the infectious disease unit of the facility

Please make alternate arrangements for accommodation. The management regrets any inconveniences this might cause you,” the notice read.

However, by a stroke of intervention, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has confirmed that the directive for the house doctors and intern nurses to vacate their quarters have been upturned based on a new counter-directive.

Meanwhile, a source told TNG, complaining bitterly, how his pregnant wife, after being induced into labour, was sent packing out of the hospital. “The government discharged all the patients in Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja because they want to turn the place to an infectious disease hospital. They sent my wife, who was pregnant and had already been induced away. We almost lost her and her baby,” he said.

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello could not be reached for comments. His lines were unreachable, and no response has been received from SMS inquiries sent to him at the time of filing this report.
