The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has provided a reason for the alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
According to the PTFCOVID19, improved capacity for testing and contact tracing is responsible for the growing number of confirmed cases.
Here are some major highlights from today’s PTFCOVID19 media briefing:
- Decontamination, provision of hand sanitizers and hand washing facilities as well as use of face masks and thermometers for temperature checks are mandatory for reopening of offices and businesses.
- Mass gathering of more than 20 people outside of a work or business place is strictly prohibited.
- All passenger flights remain banned and all persons arriving the country must go through mandatory isolation for 14 days.
- PTF technical team of public health experts has begun evaluation of the situation in Kano State.
- Health workers who tested positive for Coronavirus are in high spirit in Isolation centers.
- Companies involved in food processing can commence operations.
- Government workers can resume from 4th of May 2020 but based on specific grade levels for social distancing.
- All schools will remain closed, restaurants will not open but can engage in home deliveries
- Construction of critical road projects will resume but under strict supervision of federal and state government.
- Overnight curfew is applicable nationwide from 8 pm to 6 am daily with effect from Monday, May 4.
- Interstate travels are banned except for movement of goods, agro-products, petroleum products, and other essential services.
- Improved capacity for testing and contact tracing is responsible for the growing number of confirmed cases.
- 334 trucks of grains amounting to 9, 320 metric tonnes deployed to Lagos and Ogin states as well as FCT during the lockdown period.
