Eleven years after the death of Nigeria’s former President, the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, former President Goodluck Jonathan has spoken on a common vision both of them shared.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Yar’Adua was Nigeria’s president from 2007 to 2010 after he was declared the winner of the presidential election held on 21 April 2007.
He was sworn in on 29 May 2007 with Jonathan as his deputy.
However, Yar’Adua died on 5 May 2010 at the age of 58 in Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
An Islamic burial took place on 6 May in his hometown in Katsina State.
TNG reports Jonathan then took over as Acting President before he was later elected President, replacing his former boss.
Meanwhile, eleven years after the demise of Yar’Adua, Jonathan still has glowing memories of the Katsina born politician.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Bayelsa politician said both himself and Yar’Adua shared a common vision of a peaceful, united and just Nigeria.
He added that although Yar’Adua was out of sight, his legacies continue to live and that his memory will continue to be cherished.
The statement reads: “Today, I celebrate my boss, friend, colleague and brother, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who departed this world 11 years ago.
“As politicians, we shared a common vision of a peaceful, united and just nation. President Yar’Adua kept faith with this vision, channelling his strength and time in pursuit of an egalitarian society, until his last breath.
“Although out of our sight, his legacies live with us and his memory we will continue to cherish.
“We will always remember him as a peacemaker, nation builder and democrat whose timeline was defined by virtues of service, peace, truth and love”.
