The Nigerian Government has called for urgent activation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) standby force over the Mali political crisis.
The Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita was toppled on Tuesday by military junta.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama made the call in a tweet.
He said the country welcome the activation of the standby force.
The tweet reads: “The Nigerian Government unequivocally condemns the coup d’état that took place in #Mali Monday and demands the immediate and unconditional restoration of constitutional order. We welcome the urgent activation of the #ECOWAS Standby force.”
