The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has rebutted claims of spending N1 billion on Short Message Service (SMS) to educate Nigerians about the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the NCDC had since outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in Nigeria engaged in sensitization of the public to the pandemic, using SMS to create awareness on how to keep safe.

The NCDC said the text messages Nigerians are receiving have been largely provided as in-kind support by some telecoms operators in the country.
The headline claiming that NCDC has spent N1 billion on SMS to Nigerians is FALSE
While communication through SMS is a key part of our #COVID19 response strategy, this has been largely provided as in-kind support by @AirtelNigeria @MTNNG @GloWorld
