Nigeria vs Ghana: Amunike speaks on imposition of players by NFF

Former Super Eagles left winger and assistant coach Emmanuel Amunike has debunked the speculations making the rounds that top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, imposed some invited players for Nigeria’s 2022 FIFA World Cup double-leg playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana.

The Super Eagles bench were alleged of inviting players sent to them by NFF for selection at the senior national team level.

This accusation came up shortly after Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw against Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja and missed qualification to the senior men’s Worldcup holding in Qatar , November 2022

“We all had opinions about the invited players.

“We had a conversation with Austin Eguavoen, who is the head of the technical crew and of course, he has the final say over the list because he is the man in charge.”

Meanwhile, the NFF had on Thursday sacked Eguavoen, Amunike and all the Super Eagles technical coaching crew after failure to qualify for Qatar.

Despite missing out of Worldcup ticket by playing 1-1 draw with Ghana Super Eagles of Nigeria moved up 2 places and now ranked 30th as against last month’s 32nd position in the FIFA world rankings.
