Sapele, Okpe community honours Late Dafinone

Residents of Sapele and Okpe Community in Delta State yesterday Wednesday received the remains of their son and patriarch of the Dafinone, Chief Senator David Omueya Dafinone, the Owhere 1 of Okpe Kingdom dynasty in grandstyle.

Members of the community defy their various businesses and official engagement to give a heroic welcome to the patriarch of the Dafinone Family, after his sojourn on Earth.

All roads leading to sapele, the country home of the former senator experienced heavy traffic gridlock as family friends and associates as well as women, groups, school children, youths and community leaders trooped out in their numbers dancing and singing to catch a glimpse of the royal ceremonies and fanfare that characterized his final journey to his ancestral home ahead of the weeklong funeral activities to bid him fare to his final resting place at the weekend.

Motorist and other road users had a hectic time gaining access into sapele town as all roads leading to Sapele was shut down owing to the activities to herald the final burial rites of Chief Senator David Omueya Dafinone, the Owhere 1 of Okpe Kingdom.

Members of the traditional family and traditional chiefs from Sapele/Okpe, family friends and associates of the deceased came out to celebrate the life and times of the late Senator and accomplished foremost accountant in what could be best described as a carnival of sort.

Several cultural dance troupe from the Urhobo nation danced in their beautiful performances at Ugbenu/koko Junction where the High Chief was in a brief stop over greeted with 21 cannon shots by residents from Ethiope East Local Government Area as the late Senator David Omueya Dafinone, continues his journey to Okpe Kingdom, his country home with pomps and pageantry.

Speaking to our correspondent, in sapele, Acting Most Senior Man of Sapele/Okpe Community, Pa Joseph Itoto Ogodo said the community was delighted to receive the corpse of their son and fallen Hero.

A Sibling of the deceased,Chief Godfrey Dafinone described the demise of the patriarch of the Dafinone family as a big loss to Urhobo nation, the dafinone family, Delta state and Nigeria in general.

On ground to receive his remains include Prof Sam Oyobvaire, widow of the deceased, Mrs Cynthia Dafinone, children and grandchildren of the deceased.

Chief Senator David Omueya Dafinone, the Owhere One of Okpe Kingdom was born on March 1927, died on 30 September after a brief illness.
