And so it came to be that I received an August visitor in October. My friend came to see me in the office earlier yesterday and as soon as we were done with the exchange of pleasantries, he went on about how the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Orowhoedor OBOREVWORI, left on vacation without transmitting power to the Deputy Governor,Sir Monday Onyeme.
I immediately countered that His Excellency did transmit the Powers,duties and responsibilities of the office of the Governor as prescribed by section 190 of the CFRN(as altered) to His Excellency the Deputy Governor,via a letter read on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly by the Rt.Honourable Speaker; Mr. GUWOR Emomotimi Dennis,on Thursday the 3rd of October,2024.
I also went on to inform him that,part of the letter as read and adopted by the House stated that;
“I bring warm greetings to the Right Honourable Speaker and the members of the Delta State House of Assembly, and I wish to inform the Honourable House that I will be proceeding on a two-week vacation from Monday, 7th October 2024. In accordance with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), His Excellency, Chief (Sir) Monday Onyeme, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, shall perform the duties of my office as Acting Governor during the period of my leave.”
His Excellency the Deputy Governor,Sir Monday Onyeme has since assumed that role and has been discharging the duties of the office of Governor in an ACTING CAPACITY with effect from Tuesday the 8TH OF OCTOBER,2024 and shall continue to do so until the eventual safe return of His Excellency Rt.Hon.Elder Sheriff Francis Orowhoedor OBOREVWORI,the Executive Governor of Delta State.
Now,this brings two matters to the FORE. Our crave for NEGATIVE NEWS and the need to “remove the log in our eyes before attempting to remove the spec in our neighbour’s eyes”.
My friend believed he had a veritable reason to criticise the Governor of Delta State but yet he has been mute since his chosen President,¹BAT left Nigeria for a purported TWO WEEKS WORKING VACATION without bothering to transmit power to his Vice-President as prescribed by section 145(1 & 2)of the same 1999 Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria(as altered).
It is pertinent to note herein that,His Excellency Rt.Hon.Elder Sheriff Francis Orowhoedor OBOREVWORI came into the office of Governor after two successful and eventful terms as a Lawmaker.In addition he presided over the Delta State House of Assembly for 6 uninterrupted years and as such was the receiver of several of such letters from his predecessor;Senator Doc.Arthur Ifeanyichukwu OKOWA.
Being a Lawmaker before his ascending the exalted seat of Governor thus prepared him adequately for the Constitutional challenges that an unexperienced Governor might likely find confusing or insurmountable.
This is therefore a further clarification to doubting Thomases just in case they exist here as friends and pals; Delta State is in experienced hands. Delta State is advancing. The Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Orowhoedor OBOREVWORI administration is committed to practicing DEMOCRACY and the THE RULE OF LAW to the fullest.
I do hope that those of you who took it upon yourselves to “share” the PUBLICITY STUNT by that Sapele skit maker,Elo,will also have the modesty to “share” this commendable CONSTITUTIONAL and DEMOCRATICALLY complaint action of our dear Governor.
