Plateau ADC chairman supports coalition, chides 2023 presidential candidate

COUP ALLEGATION: We’ll flush out Tinubu with ballots, not bullets — ADC replies Presidency

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that President Bola Tinubu will be democratically flushed out of office through the ballot box, not by force, as it dismissed allegations of plotting to overthrow the government.

The party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known stated this in a strongly worded statement responding to a tweet by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Onanuga had alleged that the opposition coalition, led in part by the ADC, was plotting to overthrow President Tinubu before the 2027 general election. He described the opposition’s growing alliance as a threat to democratic stability.

In response, Abdullahi described the statement as “reckless, unsubstantiated, and a clear attempt to intimidate opposition voices.”

“The ADC condemned the tweet made by an aide of President Bola Tinubu, Onanuga, which alleges that the opposition is planning to overthrow the Tinubu government before 2027. If anything, it potentially lays the grounds for a systematic clampdown on opposition leaders,” he said.

The party reiterated its full commitment to democracy, stressing that it has no intention to subvert the constitution but will instead present a credible alternative to Nigerians through lawful means.

“We are not soldiers; we are politicians. We don’t have bullets; we only have the ballots. When the time comes, we will present our solutions and an alternative vision to Nigerians and let the people decide,” Abdullahi added.

He further accused the Tinubu administration of creating a narrative of threat to justify repression and silence growing opposition voices ahead of the 2027 elections.
