The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today presented certificate of registration to twenty-one newly registered political parties.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the presentation at the commissions’ headquarters at the federal capital territory, Abuja.

With the development, INEC is saying the number of new political parties has risen to 22 in addition to the 46 parties already in existence.
“This means that the total number of political parties in Nigeria today stands at 68,” the INEC chairman said.

Meanwhile, INEC has released timetable for the general elections that will hold across the country in 2019. The commission has also fixed October 7, 2018 deadline for parties to pick their presidential candidates.
