Paris Saint Germain and Argentina captain, Lionel Messi has been crowned Best FIFA Men’s Player award at a ceremony held in Paris on Monday night.
Messi beat Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid captain, Karim Benzema, to the prize.
Recall that Messi won the 2022 World Cup with his country Argentina in December, finally getting to lift the only major honour he hasn’t won in his career.
“It’s amazing. It was a tremendous year and it is an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award,” Messi said.
It was Messi’s second FIFA The Best title, with his first coming in 2019.
He has also won a record seven Ballon d’Or awards.
