Although both teams had the same goal difference, goals scored, and disciplinary record, Denmark initially appeared to advance in second place due to their higher UEFA ranking, with Slovenia progressing alongside them, subject to confirmation.
In a tepid match with few real chances, England had the better opportunities. Harry Kane and Phil Foden forced easy saves from goalkeeper Jan Oblak, and Bukayo Saka had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half.
England dominated possession but had few shots on target, as Slovenia defended resolutely and stifled their frustrated opponents’ attacks.
