The Portuguese Football Federation has appealed to Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) to award Portugal’s first goal against Uruguay to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bruno Fernandes sent in a cross that splashed through Ronaldo’s head and he thought he had scored but the goal was credited to Bruno during the match with Uruguay.
FIFA, however, thought otherwise and gave the goal to Fernandes with football’s world governing body writing:
“In the match between Portugal and Uruguay, using the Connected Ball Technology housed in adidas’s Al Rihla Official Match Ball, we are able to definitively show no contact on the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo for the opening goal in the game.
Ronaldo scored Portugal’s first goal at the Mundial last week in their group H encounter with Ghana.
However, Fernandez has said he wasn’t bothered with who’s credited with the goal, saying the three points was what matters to him.
